Integrated Teacher Education Programme (ITEP)
The Integrated Teacher Education Programme (ITEP) at CMP Degree College is designed in accordance with the transformative vision of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. Recognizing that teachers are the backbone of a vibrant and equitable education system, NEP 2020 proposes a comprehensive restructuring of teacher education. In alignment with this vision, ITEP at CMP Degree College aims to prepare professionally competent, socially responsible and academically sound educators through a multidisciplinary and integrated approach.
ITEP is a four-year full-time undergraduate programme that blends disciplinary knowledge with professional teacher preparation from the very beginning of the course. Instead of separating subject study and pedagogical training, the programme integrates them in a systematic manner. Students receive a strong foundation in their chosen discipline—such as Arts or Science—alongside rigorous training in educational theory, pedagogy, child development, assessment practices and classroom engagement. This integrated structure ensures that future teachers develop both subject mastery and teaching competence simultaneously.
At CMP Degree College, the programme is committed to nurturing reflective practitioners who are capable of addressing the diverse needs of learners in contemporary classrooms. The curriculum emphasizes foundational literacy and numeracy (FLN), inclusive education, multilingual approaches, value-based education, use of educational technology, experiential learning and awareness of Indian knowledge systems. Special attention is given to ethical values, constitutional principles and community engagement, enabling student-teachers to become socially sensitive and professionally responsible educators.
Practical exposure is a central component of the programme. Students participate in structured school internships, observation visits, micro-teaching sessions, action research projects and community-based activities. These experiences bridge the gap between theory and practice and help them gain real-world insights into classroom dynamics and school culture. Continuous mentoring and reflective practice further enhance their professional growth. The programme functions under the academic framework and regulatory guidelines of the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) and the affiliating university. By adopting a holistic and forward-looking model of teacher preparation, CMP Degree College strives to contribute meaningfully to the development of high-quality educators who can meet the evolving demands of the Indian education system.
